Don't worry, be hopeful.

I have a lot of "spacy" moments, but this one tops the list of things that I should probably never admit I did.

One day, while chatting on the phone with my mom, I went to the ATM to get some money. After I was finished, I headed to this amazing Spanish restaurant by my house to get some white rice. Yes, I do just eat white rice without anything else.

The restaurant had a credit card minimum, so I decided to use some of the cash I took out the ATM. Huge problem though...my wallet was empty.

As you can probably imagine, I was confused.

It took me 5 minutes (literally) to realize what happened. At the bank, I was so distracted with telling my mom a story that I forgot to take the money that was dispensed out the ATM machine.

I guess people often go to do something and leave without doing the very thing they want to do. But with money, nah, I admit that's just crazy and careless.

In the Bible, Gideon asked God for a sign that would confirm he was going to rescue Israel. Read Judges 6 to get the whole story.

The background of the story is that the Israelites were worshipping other gods and doing things that God didn't approve of. But because God heard Israel's prayers for help, He sent an angel to tell Gideon that He was going to use him to rescue the Israelites from their enemies.

Gideon wanted deliverance for God's people but lacked in faith after God already confirmed that he would be successful. Did you catch that? God, God who created the universe, spoke directly to Gideon and he didn't believe. Crazy.

So, Gideon "fleeced" God. Basically, a fleece is when you say, "If you're really God, do this," as if the big G needs to prove Himself. He doesn't. But, God did prove Himself to be true to Gideon.

God did exactly what Gideon asked Him to do, and you know what, Gideon still didn't believe Him. He chose to worry about whether he was the guy for the job rather than trust God.

After Gideon didn't believe God the first time, he sent out another fleece—a little disrespectful if you ask me (but you didn't). God proved Himself to be true again, and Gideon went on to defeat the Midianites.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could all get divine answers like Gideon? We can. Maybe not in the same way, but God still speaks to His people.

What happened to me on Friday made me think about how we ask God for things, He gives them to us, and we are too distracted (or filled with unbelief) to take what He's given us or to even recognize that it's Him.

God says, "This is what I want you to do," and he gives us everything we need to accomplish the task, but we get sidetracked with things going on in our lives and don't take our blessings.

"This can't be God," we say to ourselves because it's not exactly what we asked for.

God's ways are far above anything we can comprehend with our limited thinking. Things aren't always going to make sense, but He knows what He's doing.

Life has many challenges, and there's always going to be noise around you, but you gotta drown it out. Worrying isn't going to help. In fact, worrying just shows your lack of faith.

People asked me why I wasn’t worried about the money I lost on Friday.

There was nothing I could do about it, so there was no point in worrying. And, I didn’t mention (on purpose) that it was only $20. I knew my super dope bank would refund it to me—just saying.

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

—Matthew 6:25-27

You were created in the image of God Himself, and He values you above all His other creations. And Just as he provides for the birds who don't plant seeds or harvest them, He will always provide for you.

Stay focused on God, and He will direct you every step of the way. Don't let the noise on the outside keep you from the blessings that God has in store for you.

Don't worry, be hopeful, and stay focused on God. You got this!

Challenge: Think about a time when God has answered one of your prayers. Instead of "fleecing" God, how can you tap into the same faith and believe that God will answer what you're praying about now? Maybe He already has and you've been too distracted to notice. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Shoot me an email or head on over to the discussions page.

You were born to do great things. Push.
