Run Your Race

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” - Hebrews‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I always wanted to run track in high school. I used to win most of the running competitions in elementary school, but the thought of running against in shape high schoolers gave me anxiety.

My secret fear of not being good enough to compete on a high school level held me back from trying out for the track team in high school. But when senior year came around, I knew it was my last chance, so I decided to just do it.

During one of our first practices, my coach was surprised at how fast I was. He already had his key runners and didn’t expect any new people to be neck and neck with them, but I was.

I was out of shape and had on the bulkiest Air Jordan sneakers, but I ran with all my heart to show the coach what I could do.

My very first race, I came in 2nd place. I don't know how I managed to place because I was still out of shape and had my bulky Jordans on, but I was determined to run as fast as possible.

My track career was short-lived. After a few weeks of running track and step-dancing, I tore my hamstring. It happened in the middle of my final step competition, but I kept going despite the pain because I knew I was an essential part of the plan to win the competition.

Last week, as clear as day, God placed on my heart that we need to run the race that He has set before us with everything inside of us. Whatever He is calling us to do, now is the time to do it.

Here's the thing, though, when we are running our race, sometimes there will be hurt and pain. But everything that hurts isn’t meant to harm us.

When alcohol is poured over an open wound, it hurts, but the alcohol cleans the wound and protects it against infection.

Working out can hurt at times, but the benefits are innumerable.

The hurt or pain that we sometimes experience during our journey is meant to make us stronger. When it comes, it's important that we trust God and not our feelings.

Our feelings will tell us to give up, but God wants us to finish the race because we are an essential part of His plan. When we keep our eyes on Him, we will finish strong and be effective.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” - Hebrews‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As we strive to fulfill the plans God has in store for us, all we know about God and what He's done in our lives and the lives of others should inspire us to do His will.

Hold onto the vision that God has given you and run with it. Things might not always go the way you planned them to go and obstacles will come, but run your race with everything inside of you.

With God, you will succeed. With God, you will do great things.
