New Year's Day makes me feel a little bittersweet.
Sixteen years ago, on New Year’s Day, my dad had a heart attack after two weeks of recovering from a successful kidney and pancreas transplant surgery,
He died that day. I was only twelve-years-old at the time, and I had no clue that from that day forward my life would never be the same.
It wasn't a coincidence that I lost daddy on New Year’s Day, though, a day that represents the beginning of something new.
For most people, the day is celebrated as a chance to start fresh. My dad loved to celebrate the beginning of the year! But for me, I use the day to reflect on the previous year and remember some of the lessons my dad taught me.
My dad was a man of great faith, and he taught me to take risks, spend as much time as I can with the people I love, and most importantly, trust God in everything I do.
Our time here on earth is short.
It's our obligation to find and live God's purpose for our lives right now. When we step out in faith to fulfill God's will and allow Him to do things in our lives that only He can do, people become drawn to the contagiousness of His light shining through us.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
- Matthew 5:16
Our obedience brings God the glory.
Some people will have short lives and some will have long lives. I don’t know how long any of us will be here, but I do know that right now, at this very moment, you can start fresh.
People often say, "Begin with the end in mind." Well, I do believe that we should begin with the end in mind, but only after we've ended with the beginning in mind.
I believe you should end any and every single thing that's holding you back from ALL that God has planned for you, and begin victoriously with a new frame of mind.
From a spiritual standpoint, 2017 was one of the most successful years for me because I achieved something very important: letting go of my need to control everything.
I let God guide all my major decisions last year, and I truly experienced His peace. I gave all my worries to Him, and He came through every single time.
I don't know the specifics of what will happen in 2018, but I do know there are amazing things in store for you.
Leave the worries of 2017 in the past where they belong. Trust in God with all your heart, follow His direction, and watch Him pour out blessings exceedingly and abundantly above all you could've ever imagined.
Cheers to the best year you've ever experienced. Happy New Year!
