Stir Up the Fire in You.

Stir up the fire inside of you

There's a fire inside of me that I've attempted to tame for the last two years.

This champion has been inside of me since I was a kid. And lately, I've been afraid to let it out.

A few years ago, when I was building a multi-level-marketing business, I would often ask my prospects this question: have you ever felt like there's a better version of yourself locked inside yourself that you can't get out?

Mostly everyone said yes.

I was selling people (and myself) on the idea that we all have a champion deep down inside of us waiting to be let loose. Well, I was wrong ... partly wrong.

You see, without God, we have no champion living in us at all. All good things come from Him and Him alone (James 1:17). But when we become believers, the Holy Spirit—the only true champion—dwells in us and gives us the power we need to be victorious.

The fire that I've been attempting to keep on a leash is the inextinguishable fire of the Holy Spirit. I've been playing life safe, lately, because I'm afraid of what will happen if I completely let go ... if I completely let the Holy Spirit take over.

I don't fear all the amazing things that God will do through me. I fear not having control. I think about how the fictional superhero, the Hulk, had no control over the power that took over his body, and the thought of that scares the skinny jeans off of me.

I'm a recovering control freak, and my flesh wants to remain in control. If the fire takes over, would I still be me? I want to remain in control!

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower,

you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me."

— Matthew 16:24

Ok, time to call my sponsor ... God 🙏.

He gave me Ephesians 4:20, which says, "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption, " and 1 Thessalonians 5:19, which says, "Do not quench the Spirit."

If the fire living in us is the Holy Spirit, then quenching the Spirit means to suppress the fire. Why would you want to hold back the person who wants the best for you ... who wants to protect you and do great things through you?

You wouldn't. I wouldn't. God will do miraculous things in our lives if we just let go and allow Him to take complete control.

Imagine what could happen if we all became Hulks for Christ. And instead of being stirred up by anger and negative emotions, we're stirred up by God's love and His Word. Instead of holding back because of fear, we're strengthened by His power.

God wants to ignite the fire, His Spirit, inside us … inside of you. Whatever He's calling you to do, don't hold back—this is me talking to me too. Stir up the fire and let nothing stop you!

Prayer: Lord, I praise you for who you are and what you're doing in my life. Your Word says that you didn't give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. I need your strength. Help me today to not be afraid of the great things you want to do through me. Help me to let go and let you take complete control of my life.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
