I used to always live by the quote, "Winners never quit, and quitters never win." But now I know that sometimes quitting is necessary to win.
In 2011, I moved to New York City on a mission to start my own men’s fashion company. And I did it a year and a half after moving there.
I confidently told everyone I knew, "I'm going to use fashion to do something great!"
But at the end of 2016, something strange happened to me—something I never thought would happen. I began to lose the passion for the company that I dreamed of starting when I was a kid.
I convinced the world to support my dream, and now my dream was fading.
The interesting thing, though, is that while my passion for fashion was burning out, God was inputting new desires inside of me. And I had a decision to make.
I could either fight to keep the fire burning or blow out the candles on my dreams to let God do a new thing. It wasn't an easy decision for me.
All I ever thought about was building a fashion company, so letting it go was like losing a huge piece of me.
I didn't want to let down all of the people who supported and believed in my dream, but I knew I had to choose God. I knew that to do great things, I had to "take up my cross" and let go of the good things.
Experiencing a loss of passion for things you once loved isn't a bad thing when it's God exchanging your desires with His. It means that He's about to do something new (and exciting!) in your life.
God's way is always better than ours.
Over the last few years, God has been teaching me to trust Him with my whole heart. Starting Forholy is a testimony in itself.
I trusted God to give me the grace to write, and He hasn't failed me.
And He won't fail you either! Who God calls, He equips.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." - Proverbs 3:5-6
Despite popular belief, sometimes you need to quit to succeed. Quitting to follow God's plan doesn't make you a loser, it makes you a champion.
If God is leading you to blow out the candles on something in your life, trust Him. He's preparing you for something even greater than what you could've planned for yourself.
