Don't Give Up.

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

- 2 Chronicles 15:7

Have you ever started something expecting it to be easy? Maybe it was a project or even a relationship. And then halfway through it, you felt like giving up because it’s not what you expected?

I’ve been there many times before. Last week, twice.

An elderly lady in my community bought me an apple pie from a local bakery, and I thought it would be cool to make some homemade whipped cream to eat with it. You only need three ingredients to make whipped cream, so I knew it would be an easy thing to whip up (no pun intended).

The problem was I didn’t have an electric hand mixer. How hard can it be to whip cream without one?

I followed all of the instructions of the recipe I found and started to whip the heavy cream with a whisk. After three minutes of intensely whipping (and sweating profusely), I realized that my cream wasn’t thickening.

So I did what any good chef would do in this situation—I Googled what to do if your whipped cream isn’t thickening.

All of the Google results said to keep whipping the mixture but warned against over-whipping it. Okay, so how much longer does that mean because I just did an unexpected workout? My arm was sore, and I wanted to throw out the cream and count it as an epic fail.

But I decided to give it another try and keep whipping the cream. About a minute later, I saw it thickening, and that was all the motivation I needed because I started whipping that cream with everything inside of me.

And about 30 seconds later, I had a bowl of perfectly whipped cream. My first whipped cream attempt was a success because I kept going.

Last week a friend asked for my help with a project. I agreed to help, but I wanted to quit the moment I was asked to do something that I honestly didn’t want to do.

Do I follow through with my commitment or back out and let someone else do it? I was leaning towards the latter, but after thinking about it for a while, I realized that the project was bigger than me and my feelings. The project is an opportunity to serve God.

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

- 2 Chronicles 15:7

I’m reminded of what God told Asa, King of Judah, through Azariah who was the son of the prophet Oded in 2 Chronicles 15. The Lord spoke through Azariah to encourage Asa not to give up.

Azariah told Asa that the Lord is with him when he is with the Lord (2 Chronicles 15:2). The Lord gave Judah victory over the Cushites and would be with them again (and again) as long as they continued to serve Him.

God is with us when we are with Him. No matter what obstacles come our way, as long as we continue to serve God and stay along the path that He has for us, we will succeed.

Champions are made outside comfort zones. You and I are champions, and we have to get uncomfortable and trust God even when things get hard or don’t make sense.

Keep whipping the cream of life. Don’t give up. Push forward, and finish the race!
