Hold On to Your Dreams!

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.”

– Proverbs 13:12

I used to think that problems were dead ends, but now I know that problems are just tunnels with a light at the end.

There's this story I once heard about an elderly man named Jim who shared a hospital room with another man named Joe. Both men were unfortunately constrained to their beds.

In the room, Joe’s bed was near the window and Jim’s bed was on the opposite side near the door.

Since both men couldn’t get out their beds, Joe would prop himself up on his forearms to glance out the window. He would then tell Jim about all the cool things happening on the outside.

Jim was encouraged but longed to see what was going on outside.

For months, Jim lived vicariously through what Joe would tell him about what was going on outside. And although he appreciated Joe, he started to get jealous.

One night, Joe started coughing uncontrollably and couldn't reach his emergency button. Jim heard what was going on but pretended to be asleep.

He selfishly thought to himself, "If Joe dies, I'll be able to lay by the window and see all the marvelous things going on outside." So, he ignored Joe’s coughing and went back to sleep.

Joe died that night.

The next morning, after Joe’s body was removed from the room, Jim asked the nurse to move his bed near the window.

Literally seconds after the nurse moved his bed, he propped himself up on his forearms, as Joe used to do, to finally get a chance to see life outside the hospital room. And to his surprise, the window was facing a wall and there was nothing to see at all.

You see, Joe knew that the window was facing a wall, but he saw it as an opportunity to encourage Jim and bring light to their situation. He could’ve been grumpy and told Jim that there was nothing to see, but he chose to give him hope.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.”

God gives us all dreams, ideas, and visions to be fulfilled at an appointed time.

Although you may have trials and obstacles in your life, you can respond with joy knowing that God will always come through for you. Focus on growing in your relationship with God, and He will reveal to you what He’s trying to do in and through your life.

In every unfavorable situation, there’s always something you can look forward to. Joe looked forward to encouraging Jim with stories, and you can look forward to the fulfillment of God’s promises.

God doesn’t start work that He won’t complete. Hold on to your dreams and wait for God to provide an opportunity that aligns with His will.

If He placed the dream inside of you, He will surely fulfill it. Wait on God, who’s our light at the end of the tunnel.
