“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.” - Psalm 127:3-4

When I’m out of the country, I’m on my worst behavior. And by worst behavior, I mean I want dessert every day!

I was in Jamaica a couple of weeks ago on a missions trip, and I wanted to get some Grape-Nut ice cream in the community where we were serving. It’s the perfect treat after a long day in the sun.

Now, I’ve eaten ice cream all over Jamaica, but for some reason, the ice cream in that community is the best I've had. So I was determined to get it!

I've been serving in that community for years, but when I want to go somewhere without the team, I always make sure I have a local person with me—it makes me feel safe.

So one of the young ladies from the community told her 6-year-old son, Kenzo, to take me up the street to the ice cream man.

He rushed home to get his shoes and enthusiastically led me to the man. I'm sure he knew that he would also get a special treat ;).

I thought it was interesting that out of all of the people who were standing around, a 6-year-old was the one who was entrusted with leading me to the place I needed to go. And he made me feel safe.

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.” - Psalm 127:3-4

I came across that scripture last week and it intrigued me that children were compared to arrows.

Like arrows, children can be directed to the correct path—to God. And like an arrow, children can pierce you with happiness.

They are moldable, loyal, and tender. Children are also completely dependant on their parents for safety, sustenance, and direction.

In the same way, as children of God, He wants us to be absolutely dependant on Him. The faith that God looks for in us is humble, teachable, and trusting—like a child.

Kenzo got me to the destination where I needed to go because he knew the way. He was confident and had faith in what he was taught by those who love him.

Life can get foggy at times, but that's when we need to exercise faith. Like Kenzo, you can be confident in the promises of God because he loves you and wants the best for you.

You are His masterpiece.

And when you trust God to guide you every step of the way, He will always get you to the correct destination.
