“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”
- James 1:2-4 (NIV)
I went hiking last weekend upstate New York.
I don’t know if it was my new diet or just an intense hiking trail, but my energy level was 25%, and I was about to quit halfway through.
The beginning of the trail was steep and rocky. I thought we would have a chance to catch our breath, but the middle of the trail was even steeper and rockier.
Our group leader was a patient man who gently nudged us to keep going, but let us know if it was too much, we could stop at any time. I wanted to quit.
All it would’ve taken was one person to speak up and say “Let’s head back,” and I would’ve been down. But no one did, so we kept going.
As we got to the top of the mountain, I realized I wasn’t gasping for air anymore. I could talk and climb without feeling like I was going to pass out.
The top part of the mountain was easier to climb.
It got me thinking about life and what someone told me years ago: “If you do what’s hard, life will be easy. If you do what’s easy, life will be hard.”
Imagine if we stopped climbing right when we were about to hit the easier part? Right when we were about to get to our breakthrough.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” - James 1:2-4
Life can be rocky at times and cause our energy to drain. But when we push through our trials, we build character, perseverance, and strength that better prepares us for future obstacles.
You can choose to do life on your own, but relying on God is what makes things easier. He helps us reach the top of the mountains.
God is your strength when you’re weak. If you let Him, He will help you push through your obstacles instead of avoiding them.
You have access to the greatest leader of all time, and He will not let you down.
Keep going, don’t stop because your breakthrough is coming!
