“And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised” - Hebrews 6:15 (NIV)
I have never been good at waiting and would not describe myself as a patient person.
Living in New York, I often found myself waiting a lot. Most of my waiting was on the arrival of trains and buses.
Instead of waiting to see what happens at the end of a movie, I look up spoilers online. I shouldn’t have been surprised that this was the area of my life that God would work on.
My first waiting season was for a job. I just graduated from college and couldn’t find a position within my field, but I prayed and believed that I would find a job soon.
During one of my searches, I found the email address of a recruiter for a company where I wanted to work. I reached out and received an interview a few weeks later.
Of course, I was very excited. I just knew I would get the job because God was answering my prayer. If you haven’t already guessed, I didn’t get it. I couldn’t understand why God would open the door only to shut it.
After I got over my frustration, I began to see that I was giving myself all of the credit for finding the recruiter. Fast forward to a year later of temp jobs, I received a call from a recruiter for a different position at that same company. After several interviews, I was hired for a role where I was able to meet some amazing people.
This time it was all God, and I was sure to give Him the glory.
We don't always understand God’s plan in the beginning but when we sit and think about it, everything starts to make sense.
A few days into my training, I went to a youth service at my church. I honestly didn't feel like going but I went anyway.
I sat by myself in the corner, and after a few worship songs, I felt someone tap me on my shoulder. It was the girl who was training me at work. I didn't even know she attended the same church.
The young lady who was training me at work became one of my good friends. At that time in my life, I was just getting out of an unhealthy relationship and I needed to get back to that place.
You know that place. The place where God finds you in your brokenness and leads you to grace.
Nobody can tell me God doesn't have a reason for everything He does!
“And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised”
- Hebrews 6:15
The young lady became an instrumental part in bringing me back on the right track. There is still so much I am waiting on God for, but I know He will be faithful to fulfill the desires He's placed in me.
If you find yourself frustrated during a waiting season, speak to God. Tell Him how you feel and don’t hold back.
I often find so much peace after turning to God, and I am reminded that He is always in control no matter how long it takes. Keep on waiting and trusting God.
