“What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?” - James 2:14 (NLT)
I remember crying on the phone with my brother one day. This was about six or seven years ago. I was pouring out my heart to him about my dreams.
My grandma, who co-signed my student loans, called my brother to “talk some sense into me” because she was stressed out. She was getting phone calls every day from my student loan companies because I couldn’t pay my monthly bills.
I was working two jobs, but my bank account was nearly empty.
My brother generously offered to help me make the monthly payments. I didn’t want my grandma to have a heart attack because of my debt. It wasn’t her burden to carry.
So I did what I believed I had to do. I refused my brother’s help.
You might call me crazy (and even selfish), but I knew that if I kept working hard and moving forward on the dreams that God placed in my heart, I would pay off my student loans.
I refused the help because I was too prideful at the time. In hindsight, I probably should’ve let my brother help me.
Fast forward to now, my student loans aren't completely paid off yet, but my confidence in what God put inside of me remains the same.
I was reading 1 Kings 1 yesterday and reminded that God always comes through with His promises to us. King David was dying, and his son, Adonijah, tried to make himself the next king.
The interesting thing about the story is that David made a vow before the Lord that his son, Solomon, would be the next king when he died. Adonijah had other plans.
Adonijah went behind David’s back to make himself king. Unfortunately for him, it was short-lived. On his deathbed, David fulfilled the promise God gave him and made Soloman king.
No matter what obstacles come against you, play your part in fulfilling the promises that God gave to you. David was dying and could’ve just let Adonijah become king, but instead, he did everything he needed to do to make sure that didn't happen.

We all have a part to play in God’s perfect plan for our lives. Play your part, and let God do the rest.
