“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” - Ephesians 1:18 (NLT)
Everything isn't always black and white. Sometimes we need to be open to seeing things through a different lens.
I was chatting with a friend yesterday about my food preferences. Some people may say that I’m a picky eater, but I'll unashamedly disagree every time.
After hearing all of the things I don't eat, my friend told me that I was missing out on so much. “From your perspective,” I said. “From mine, I’m enjoying what I love.”
We often see things from the perspective of what we’re missing out on, but God sees things differently. He sees what we’re gaining.
This season has been very tough for me. Nothing has happened according to plan, and there’s been a lot of waiting.
There were moments when things were so cloudy and overwhelming that it was hard for me to see God’s faithfulness. But God is faithful whether we see it or not.
Through His lens, He’s using these tough seasons to bring our focus back to Him. And to mold and prepare our hearts.
God wants a deeper, more intimate relationship with us. And more often than not, cloudy seasons bring us to that place of total dependence on Him.
Last Wednesday, I turned thirty-two, and I shared on social media something I told a friend.
"Things don’t seem to be changing in this season of my life," I said.
But then I paused for a moment.
“Wait, that’s not true. Things are changing because I’m changing.”
Waiting can be an active experience. I saw things from my lack, but God showed me what I was gaining in this season—deeper intimacy with Him.
I just needed to see Hope differently. “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” - Ephesians 1:18 (NLT)
Around my birthday for the last few years, I’ve shared some nuggets of birthday wisdom with you. My nugget this year is a prayer that God will open the eyes of your heart to see His faithfulness in every season.
Time may be moving forward, but you aren’t losing anything.
Obstacles are just opportunities for you to go to deeper depths and higher heights with our good good Father. You are His beloved child, and He hears your prayers.
Keep drawing closer to God, and let Him guide you in the fog. You are gaining so much more than you know.
