“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”
– Micah 7:7 (NIV)
When I was a kid, I thought I had superpowers. My mom showed my sister and me a special trick that only we could do. She taught us how to change the traffic lights by blowing at them.
Whenever she told us to blow, we would blow and the traffic lights would change from red to green. It was the most magical thing ever. We were a superfamily, in my mind at least.
Of course, when I got older, I realized that I didn’t actually have superpowers. My mom revealed that there was a big silver sensor box by the traffic light that would change the light within six seconds.
What my mom taught us wasn’t magic at all. It was her knowing when the right time was for us to blow.
I’ve been thinking about all of the things I’ve done and people I've met over the past nine years. When I first moved to New York City, I prayed continuously for a job as an assistant fashion designer, but it didn’t happen when I wanted it to.
I spent a year and a half working part-time at an unfulfilling retail job while I interviewed for full-time positions in the fashion industry. I thought I was wasting my time working there, but one day I met a customer who introduced me to a business. That business led me to recommitting my life back to Christ and eventually starting Forholy.
God knew when the right time was to bring certain things into my life, and He knows when the right time is to bring things into your life too. You may think you are ready for something and get frustrated when it doesn’t happen, or even try to make things happen yourself.
But God knows what's best.
In the Old Testament, Joseph had to go through a long journey (and a series of obstacles) before his dream was realized. You may have to wait a little bit before you see what you’re praying for come to pass, but trust that everything that you may go through along the way is preparing you for God’s purpose.
I am guilty of trying to take control of situations when they don’t happen according to my timeline, but God’s plans are perfect. Only He knows when the right time is.
