Wait on God.

"Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!"

- Isaiah 30:18

“Maggie, are you going to continue your blog?”

A friend asked me this question a few days ago.

Last week, I wrote a post about my grandma, and that evening she passed away. It’s still unreal to me, and I’m not sure that I’ve fully processed it yet.

My grandma was a huge inspiration for me, so my friend figured that I would probably stop writing. But I told him that as long as God gives me the grace to write, I’ll continue doing it.

I remember pouring out my heart to my grandma one day. We often had deep discussions, but I specifically remember this conversation.

I told my grandma that I felt like a failure. I was in year 2 of this (4 years and counting) waiting season, and I didn’t know what I was supposed to be doing with my life.

“I don’t have the desire to design anymore,” I told her.

“I’m working jobs that I’m not particularly passionate about to pay the bills. New business ideas come to me every day, and the moment I begin to move forward on them, God sits me back down. I feel stuck.”

Tears started to roll down my face. I was having an identity crisis.

“Maggie, you are a designer. And you are a writer. You’re waiting on God for direction, and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, that’s a great place to be in,” grandma said.

At the time, I didn’t feel like that was a “great place to be in,” but I often think about her words.

A friend of mine and I were chatting a few weeks ago, and she told me something that I love. She said that when we’re driving, our GPS only talks when we need to move in a specific direction. When we’re headed in the right direction, it’s quiet.

If God hasn’t told us to move in any specific direction, we should stay the course that we’re on. When He’s ready to give us a direction, He will speak.

Waiting on God is a great place to be in. If you are seeking Him with your whole heart and He isn’t speaking, then you’re likely doing exactly what you need to be doing.

For me, writing is the course that I will stay on.

"Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!"

- Isaiah 30:18

I know more than anyone that “the wait” can be frustrating at times, and it can be tempting to jump ahead of God. But be encouraged because blessings come from waiting on the Lord.

Whether you're currently moving and shaking or sitting and waiting, trust God and take on the challenges of life one day at a time.

Diamonds aren't made overnight. And you, my friend, are a diamond.

God's got this!
