What Are You Hiding?

“The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.” - Luke 12:2 (NLT))

Last weekend, I heard an interesting story.

One of my friends and her roommates had an uncontrollable swarm of fruit flies in their apartment, so they decided to throw out all of their plants. After a few days, they realized that the fruit flies weren’t dying.

They couldn’t figure out what the issue was. And then one day it all made sense.

My friend’s roommate was hiding a plant in her room. She probably didn’t think that one plant would make a difference, but it did.

I remember in middle school always wanting to spend the night at my friend, Scogie’s house because she didn’t have strict parents and lived in the town where most of the teens at school lived.

Scogie had a cool mom, so we would always stay out late and get into things we probably shouldn’t have been doing.

One weekend, we went to the teen club where everyone (who was anyone!) used to go. My sister was with us too because she was good friends with Scogie’s brother.

When we left the club, we got the surprise of a lifetime. My mom and stepdad were there waiting for us.

They somehow found out that we went to the club and were there to pick us up—our secret was out. Let's just say that was the last day I was ever allowed to go to Scogie’s house.

“The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!” - Luke 12:2-3

What’s done in the dark will always come to light. What are you hiding?

Is there something in your life (or even your heart) that you’re hiding from the world but aren’t making right with God? We can easily deceive those around us, but God knows and sees everything.

I challenge you this week to rid yourself of all the things that can cause fruit flies in your life. What you think is a “small thing” can monopolize and become an uncontrollable thing.

We all make mistakes, do things that we probably shouldn’t do, and say things we probably shouldn’t say. But today is a new day to start fresh and release all the dead weight that’s been holding you back from God’s best.

"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17

I love that God offers freedom and forgiveness. We can’t change the past, but with God, we can turn from it and start new.

If there's something you're hiding, let go of it today. It may be hard, but I've got news for you...you're stronger than you know!
