You've Got Connections.

“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you,

you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”

– John 15:7

I used to laugh to myself when people would say, “Pray and ask God for what you need.” But now I know I didn't fully understand the power of God.

When I was in middle school, my family started an inside joke that we still use to this day as an answer to everything. Since you're my Forholy family, I'll let you in on it 😉.

My brother got into every Ivy League school that he applied for, but after visiting the different campuses, he eventually decided to go to Duke University.

Grandma was over our house one day when my brother shared the great news.

"I know why you got into Duke," grandma said confidently. "It's because of my connections." Now, grandma knew a lot of people, but she never mentioned having connections at Duke.

"What connections?" my brother asked.

"Don’t worry about it. I've got connections."

We all wanted to know who she was talking about. And after she grinned for a few (long) moments, she finally told us.

“God is my connection!”

My sister, brother, and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. So he didn’t get into Duke because of his hard work? It was because of your connections?

As a preteen, I thought that was the silliest thing someone could ever say. Connections? Right.

I grew up in the church, but clearly, my perception of God was very skewed.

The joke was on me.

“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you,

you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”

– John 15:7

My grandma knew that she was connected to the grapevine, Jesus Christ.

She knew that if she asked God for what she wanted—my brother to get into the best schools—He would grant her request, according to His will, of course.

And He did.

But guess what? As a believer, you’re connected to that same grapevine. You’ve got connections too!

“Do you not know that you are a temple of God and

that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

-1 Corinthians 3:16

The Spirit of God lives inside of all believers.

As you grow in your relationship with God, He will produce the fruits of the spirit in you. And the more you exercise the fruits of the Spirit, the more you tap into His power living in you.

Through prayer and reading the Bible, you get to know the voice of God. You get closer to knowing His heart by reading and meditating on who He is and all that He has done.

And as you continue to spend time with God, your heart will conform to His heart and your desires will be exchanged with His. You can then be confident that God will grant your requests because His desires will be your desires.

God has a perfect plan for your life, so if you haven't received an answer to your prayers yet, stay faithful and keep on trusting Him. Unlike people, God doesn't lie. Whatever He promises, He does.

You’ve got the greatest connection ever! Remain in Him, and He will remain in you.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:

because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

– 1 John 4:4 (KJV)
